Another website goes live...This time it's for an individual product website launching the next generation mobile X-ray unit from Xograph. The product the DelftDI Mobile DR M1 is a battery-powered, ultra-compact, mobile digital radiographic system.

Xograph Healthcare is a leading independent medical equipment supplier to the UK and Ireland. Since 1967, the company has a proven track record in providing innovative medical imaging technology and services to hospitals, diagnostic centres and medical services.

After the new web site was launched I caught up with Neil Staff, Xograph's Marketing Director, and he told me a bit more about himself and the business:

  • What did you want to be when you were young?
    • A veterinary surgeon or when very young a fighter pilot;
      I didn’t make the school grades for the former and my legs sprouted in my teens making the latter a non-starter.
  • What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
    • Keep your head down, work hard and the rewards will come.
  • What is the biggest mistake you’ve made in business?
    • They say the only real mistake in business is the one from which you learn nothing.
  • What do you like most about your job?
    • The variety; no two days are ever the same and I am lucky in that I have the opportunity to travel which I love.
  • What do you like least?
    • Although each day can bring new experiences, it is inevitable that in any job there can be an element of mundane repetition.
  • Who is your business hero?:
    • I can’t say I have a single hero as such but I admired the drive and quietly spoken determination of Joseph Cyril Bamford, he of yellow ‘JCB’ fame. Starting in a small lock-up with a prototype welding machine and using scrap metal from redundant air raid shelters together with running gear from surplus military vehicles, he hand built his first farm trailer in late 1945. He sold it for £45 and subsequently went on to make J.C. Bamford one of the largest companies in its sector in Europe and himself a billionaire. Who doesn’t immediately know a JC Bamford machine from its distinctive yellow colour and when you can get your initials, in this case ‘JCB’, listed as a noun meaning “a type mobile excavator used in the construction industry” in the Oxford English and other notable dictionaries, you know you’ve made it.
  • What piece of advice would you give to someone new to business?
    • If at first it can be daunting and occasionally a bit ‘scary’ when an issue appears to be a mountain rather than a molehill to overcome, stick with it, it definitely gets easier, and once that seemingly insurmountable issue has been overcome, as it surely will be, the experience gained will make you stronger and each successive situation less stressful and easier to manage.
  • What is your personal ambition for life?
    • To be useful and helpful to others, and to remain happy and in good health.
