We recently built a new website for Waterwell, a company that specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of garden irrigation and lighting systems. Waterwell is the market leader in garden irrigation and lighting for domestic properties and works with homeowners to help them get the most from their gardens.

Waterwell maintains close working relationships with garden designers, architects and developers across London and the South East and last month installed the lighting on Cleve West’s gold medal winning garden for M&G Investments at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016

After the new site was launched I caught up with Nick Ryan, Waterwell’s Operations Director, for a coffee and he told me a bit more about himself and the business:

  • What did you want to be when you were young?
    • "I did try to become a fighter pilot so I guess I must have wanted to do that at some point. I then did a landscape architecture course for a year but really, I want to be Picasso (but with more hair)."
  • What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
    • "Never ask anyone to do something you would not do yourself. Failing that, be as far away as possible while they are doing it."
  • What is the biggest mistake you’ve made in business?
    • "Not looking forward enough and not believing in myself."
  • What do you like most about your job?
    • "Meeting nice, interesting people and hearing good feedback about what we do (the work itself is, just work)."
  • What do you like least?
    • "Easy answer, driving and writing quotes."
  • Who is your business hero?:
    • "Anyone who sees a project through from start to finish (so not Phillip Green)."
  • What piece of advice would you give to someone new to business?
    • "The cliche that turnover is vanity, profit is sanity and cash is king works for me. I would also say, don't go into business to make money per se, money is simply the by-product of a good business, so go and make a good business and the rest will follow."
  • What is your personal ambition for life?
    • "To live a long and healthy life."

There’s no doubt that Waterwell are really good at what they do but they are also a business with a great vibe and friendly staff. If you want to know any more about them the go to or call the office on 020 8742 8855.
