SPOTLIGHT ON... GOLDDUST ID INTERIOR DESIGN

01/08/2016

We've just completed the website for Golddust ID, a company owned and run by entrepreneur Dee Simpson. Golddust ID is an interior design and property styling business, based in Cirencester, but covering the surrounding counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Somerset.

Golddust ID specialises in property styling for the Cotswold holiday homeshow home and rental markets together with home styling and bespoke interior design for new homes and premium properties.

This week I managed to grab some time with Dee, Golddust ID's Designer and Property Stylist to find out what motivates her and what has got her to where she is now.

  • What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
    • Treat others, as you would like to be treated yourself. We’ve all been on the receiving end of poor customer service many times, and I vowed to adopt the advice given within my own business life, considering each client and their own set of values, never taking things, or indeed comments at face value but instinctively questioning, learning and developing my customer service and listening skills to better understand and service my clients needs and aspirations.
  • What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made in business?
    • When I started my 1st business Feng Shui consulting, I assumed that my clients would know all about the subject in order to want to have a consultation. The truth is, Feng Shui is a vast and complicated science, I know because I trained to the equivalent of degree level to become a fully qualified practicing professional in that career path. In fact they wanted to address a problem or need in their lives that Feng Shui could fill using this metaphysical science in today’s modern world. Once I realised this, I found business picked up and results were more tangible for my clients even for an intangible subject like Feng Shui! New careers were forged, new personal relationships were found where there had been none for years, sick clients became well again, and the list of successful outcomes continued to grow as a result.
  • What do you like most about your Business?
    • It is the freedom to have your own creative direction and style, producing schemes that are never ordinary and always unique to each client. I love my design work, it sets me free from the mundane and encourages me to think out of the box, but also to be aware of current trends and the latest Annual Top designer inspiration from shows like Clerkenwell and 100% Design. I also like to champion British suppliers and Local business by partnering with quality local trades people and service providers. I enjoy building valuable relationships with contacts at design Trade shows and other like minded business contacts who are always a source of new ideas, business support and encouragement for my growing business for which I am eternally grateful…
  • What do you like least about your Business?
    • The increasing pressure for small business to conform to EU legislation, that can result in extra changes and time consuming paperwork via data laws. This means less time to spend “on” the business of designing and more time “in” the business of keeping up with Red Tape.
  • Who is your business hero?:
    • It would have to be Kelly Hoppen. I have admired her work greatly for many years as a trendsetter for high End interiors; she uses Global influences from East meets west, mixing this with impeccable taste. The subtle elegance of combining neutral schemes with fabulous textures and opulent finishes is her Trade Mark. Her originality shines through to make her Brand stand out from the crowd. A world renowned Designer, Entrepreneur and Educator Kelly is definitely my idea of the perfect business mentor.
  • What piece of advice would you give to someone new to business?
    • Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today! You have this great idea for a business but there are always other commitments or financial aspects to consider before going it alone….does that sound familiar? Seriously, you have to keep going, push forward when all seems lost, remember why you wanted your own business in the first place and step out with confidence in your product or service, shout it from the rooftops to anyone who will listen, and sooner or later someone will look at your work and listen to your ideas and with a consistent marketing effort they will buy into you and your brand and the that’s when the effort pays off and you get to live through your passion that is your own unique business.
  • What is your personal ambition for life?
    • We're only here once, so make it count! Be original, stand out from the crowd and shine a light on your own uniqueness. To have one ambition in life for me is too narrow a choice, as I believe you should be the person you want to be at each stage of your life. As a young child my dream was to become a Professional Dancer and to marry a Pilot…. I did! It’s important to live a life that is true to your self, to be Happy and Purposeful. Love what you do and do it to the best of your ability. I believe in the motto of “Poco a Poco” little by little, until you can achieve your dreams and fulfil those personal ambitions in life. My ambition for GOLDDUST ID is to make Interior design accessible for everyone on every level regardless of budget or space limitations. That’s why I feel like I am Flying High and Dancing with delight, to be once again embarking on yet another new direction with my work, designed uniquely for me at this time of my life.

Golddust ID an amazingly energised and dynamic business and with Dee Simpson at the helm, it can only go from strength to strength. If you need any interior design or property styling help then make sure you go to the Golddust ID website or call them on 07501 080928.
